Benefits for Cattle

RECAL PLUS is a patent pending product developed over a 20 year period and was originally started by a farmer from Indiana. Through on farm testing and the combined efforts of one of the top microbiologists and one of the top dairy veterinarians in this field, the RECAL product has become what it is today. It is a unique combination of various strains of beneficial bacteria, enzymes, and a specific type of concentrated yeast culture. It was designed to establish and rapidly expand a superior rumen population heavily weighted toward fiber digestion and to produce high levels of B-vitamins mainly vitamin B-12. All probiotics are not the same, there are hundreds of various strains and combinations.

What we tend to see with RECAL PLUS when first added to a dairy ration:

Benefits to Feeding RECAL PLUS

  • More consistent manure.
  • Stronger heats. Which is a no guarantee, but is a good indication of better reproduction to come.
  • If there is a mycotoxin issue or poor rumen health going on, we see increased dry matter intakes and more milk production. Then the dry matter intake tends to drop off do to better digestion, but milk production stays up.
  • If there is no mycotoxin issue and rumen health isn’t an issue we tend to see a decrease in dry matter intake. But milk production, % BF, % Protein and % OSOL stay the same.
  • When we talk about decreased dry matter intakes you probably are wondering how much of a decrease. Well this depends on the % forage diet. On low forage diets, 50%-55% forage we tend to see a 3%-5% decrease. On high forage diets, greater than 55% we tend to see a 5% to 8% decrease in dry matter intakes.
  • At times of stress, such as calving time, high production, weather changes, feed changes and transportation the cows tend to keep their appetites due to the high production of vitamin-B12 in the rumen from the RECAL PLUS.
  • We are also seeing signs of better blood circulation. Such as stronger heats and cows showing earlier heats after calving. Improved milk let down on slow milking cows, less udder edema on fresh cows and better hoof health.
  • We have seen improvement in income over feed cost of $0.30 to $1.50/cow/day, depending on what is going on in the herd.
  • When feeding to dry and close up cows (which are the most important cows on the farm) the cows tend to calve in with less issues, less udder edema, better appetites, better rumination and show earlier heats.
  • Rations containing a lot of good alfalfa haylage (high protein) we tend to see MUN’s in the milk go up. Then you can back off on bean meal or canola.
